Dothan health facility honored for excellence in uniting care and technology

DOTHAN, Alabama(October 11, 2017) – A national magazine has recognized the innovative care found here at long-time Dothan business, Westside Terrace Healthcare. The facility received a Certificate of Merit from McKnight’s Long-Term Care News for its blend of resident-centric care and technology solutions. The honor is part of the publication’s Excellence in Technology Awards.

Westside was among the first long-term care facilities in Alabama to implement a newly approved management and dispensing system.  In May, they started using ReadyMeds STATPack powered by Cubex, which is offered through Turenne PharMedCo Pharmacy Services. This has allowed Westside to improve access to medication and safety, while decreasing costs and saving valuable time.

“Better methods are just part of better caring. Traditional methods to fill and dispense prescriptions can take anywhere from 45 minutes to four hours, depending on the conditions,” said Kristie Hughes, Westside administrator. “Part of keeping our residents in their optimum health is making sure they have the medications they need when they need them.”

The five-star facility also looks to smarter solutions to help them keep up their government quality ratings and provide a safe environment for their residents. Seven years ago, they subscribed to The Compliance Store to help them manage regulatory compliance research and to stay on track with industry changes.

“This web-based service plays a pivotal role in helping us with risk management, staff education and training as well as making sure our environment is in compliance,” Hughes said. “We now have more time to invest in caring for our residents and making sure we are doing everything we can to make this a home for them.”
