Dothan senior wins Ms. Alabama Nursing Home Pageant

DOTHAN, Alabama (July 31, 2017) – After weeks of anticipation, Sarah Scott has captured the Ms. Alabama Nursing Home Pageant crown. Known as “Sally,” the 83-year-old resident at Westside Terrace Healthcare in Dothan was chosen from a field of 10 finalists from all over the state. She was crowned by Miss Alabama 2017 Jessica Proctor, who was co-host of the event. The pageant was held today at the Hyatt Regency Birmingham – The Wynfrey Hotel in Hoover. As the winner, Scott will serve as an official spokesperson for nursing home residents and the Alabama Nursing Home Association (ANHA).

During her crowning, an emotional Scott expressed her surprise at winning and the profound gratitude she has for all of her supporters. She told the audience about how much she is looking forward to traveling the state to meet people during her reign and working to help people understand the benefits of living in long-term care facilities.

“It is absolutely the most wonderful privilege I could ever have had – representing the nursing homes of Alabama, which are wonderful places to go when you need them,” she said.

Scott, who worked as a nurse for many years, shares a room at Westside Terrace with her husband of 34 years, Randall. She is involved in several of the activities offered at the nursing home and eagerly welcomes new residents and helps them settle into their new home. Scott has three children, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

“We are so proud of Mrs. Scott and glad to have her representing Westside and all of the state’s long-term care facilities,” said Westside administrator Kristie Hughes. “As a former caregiver herself, she knows how invaluable it is for seniors to have support when they need it.”

Earlier this year, Scott earned the title of Ms. Westside Terrace Healthcare by competing in the center’s local pageant. She and the other finalists were selected from a field of 49 contestants during preliminary judging in Montgomery. The contestants are evaluated on their outlook on life, personality, poise and involvement in their individual nursing homes.

“I will do the very best that I can in representing the nursing homes of Alabama,” Scott said. “Again, thank you so much. I am so happy.”
